Former Houston Texans legend JJ Watt shares high praise for Will Anderson Jr.

Three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year says that Will Anderson is “phenomenal”

Over the past 15 or so years former Texans and Cardinals’ defensive standout, JJ Watt, has been one of the most dominant players in the league. Watt was the No. 11 overall selection back in the 2011 NFL draft and went on to become one of the best defensive ends the league has ever seen.

Watt’s resume includes being a three-time Defensive Player of the Year, five-time first-team All-Pro, two-time NFL sack leader, Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year and a member of the 2010s All-Decade team and accolades continue to go on. Watt is without a doubt the most accomplished player in Texans history, so when they traded up to draft former Alabama superstar [autotag]Will Anderson[/autotag] with the No. 3 overall selection, it is safe to say Watt was thrilled.

For Anderson, you couldn’t have asked for a better spot to land as a rookie. His head coach, DeMeco Ryans, is also a former member of the Crimson Tide and views Anderson as the type of defensive player you can build around. Outside of that, getting to occasionally work with and take advice from a legend like Watt is a huge leg up on other rookies across the league. We know that Anderson has a massive motor and a burning work ethic, so Watt is the perfect guy to help fine-tune some skills to develop his game. Anderson has all of the skills to be an All-Pro caliber player, but his main job as a rookie will be to just soak up as much information as possible.

When Watt was asked his thoughts on Anderson he said, “I think Will Anderson is phenomenal. I’m excited to see what Burke and DeMeco do with him. He already knows how to attack the QB.”

I think Anderson will have a great chance at winning Rookie of the Year as is, but man I can’t stop thinking about what Anderson will be capable of once he starts to retain Watt’s tips.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Anderson and the Houston Texans.
