Texas has a legitimate shot to land five-star WR Ryan Wingo

The Longhorns may be in contention for one of the best receivers in the 2024 class.

There has been a very noticeable trend in Texas Longhorns recruiting as of late, which has them in the mix for top-ranked pass catchers.

Obviously the uptick in highly rated pass catchers being intrigued by Texas can be attributed to Steve Sarksian’s offense, but specifically for the 2024 class there also has to be credit given to new wide receiver coach Chris Jackson. In a recent report by On3, recruiting insider Gerry Hamilton gave a status report on all of the recruits that Texas will be hosting official visits for.

Of those featured on the list was none other than five-star wide receiver Ryan Wingo. The St. Louis native holds nearly 50 offers and is highly coveted by just about every powerhouse program in the country. He has taken two officials already, one to Georgia and one to Michigan, and has two more scheduled as he will head to Missouri and Texas. Despite Georgia being viewed as the favorite, Hamilton believes that Texas has a chance to land Wingo.

“Feeling in Austin is Texas has a legit shot in this one.”

Wingo ranks as the No. 7 player in the class, No. 2 receiver, and No. 2 player in the state of Missouri. The Longhorns have had some success with receivers recently, as their 2023 class saw them land a five-star in Johntay Cook II, and four-stars DeAndre Moore Jr. and Ryan Niblett. They also just recently landed 2024 four-Freddy Dubose.

Texas fans are beginning to see the caliber of receiver in burnt orange that they saw at Alabama under Sarkisian, and that excitement will only continue to grow.
