Before [autotag]Paul Skenes[/autotag] made a single start for the LSU Tigers, he made a goal to give back to the families of fallen or disabled military and first responders. His goal was to raise $20,000 for Fields of Honor. He even pledged to donate $10 for every strikeout he had this season.
I’m sure he had no idea that he would eclipse 200 strikeouts with a chance to break [autotag]Ben McDonald[/autotag]’s record for most strikeouts in a single season by a Tigers pitcher. So far, Skenes is on the hook for $2,000 from his strikeouts alone, but his contribution has not been added to the total raised yet.
Even without his contribution, Tiger fans helped Skenes accomplish his season-long goal on Sunday. As of 5 p.m. CT, Skenes’ campaign has raised $20,246. LSU fans are some of the best fans in the country. That goes without saying.
Skenes has become a legend on and off the diamond. Hopefully, we will get to see him pitch for LSU one more time.
LSU fans! Join me this season as I support Folds of Honor in providing scholarships to the spouses and children of American heroes. We owe a debt to those who protect our freedom and families. pic.twitter.com/vHgLdyJknY
