The Kansas City Chiefs have signed the final player in the rookie draft class.
The team announced on Thursday that second-round draft pick Rashee Rice had signed his four-year rookie contract. The No. 55 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft was the last player that the Chiefs needed to sign from their seven draft picks.
Felix Anudike-Uzomah, Wanya Morris, Chamarri Conner, BJ Thompson, Keondre Coburn and Nic Jones all got their contracts wrapped up earlier this offseason. The reason it took so long for Rice is that there is a greater level of flexibility when it comes to guaranteed money with second-round draft picks.
According to projections from Spotrac, the SMU product will receive a four-year deal with a total value of $6.4M, a $1.7M signing bonus and a 2023 salary cap hit of just over $1M. The Chiefs didn’t have a whole lot of cap space available before this signing, so it’ll be interesting to see how much space they’ll have available now that this deal has been consummated.
