[autotag]Carson Myers[/autotag], a former pitcher for the UAB Blazers, has decided to transfer to Auburn.
Carson is the son of former Auburn pitching coach and current Lipscomb assistant coach Matt Myers.
In an interview with Jason Caldwell of 247Sports, Myers talked about what having the opportunity to play for Auburn means to him.
“When I got the phone call there was a little smile on my face,” Myers said. “Knowing them for so long and knowing of them, it’s always going to make somebody’s day to get a call from one of them. The conversations I had with coach Nonemaker and the zoom meetings I had with coach Thompson have all been good.
“They expressed their needs for what they needed for the program. It’s usually a selling point for people in the recruiting process nowadays. Everybody wants to come in and start, but they were one of the few coaches that were like ‘alright, we need a starting pitcher but we’re not just going to hand it to you. You’re going to have to earn it.’ I feel like they were so nonchalant and laid back about it that it meant more.”
Myers went 3-5 for UAB this season with a 3.52 ERA in 13 starts and 71.2 innings. He struck 70 batters out and allowed 34 walks.
First and foremost, I would like to say thank you to UAB and the coaching staff for two great years. With two years of eligibility left I have decided to commit to Auburn University!!! #WarEagle pic.twitter.com/gRsq6xCjoO
