The Chicago Bears landed a potential steal in running back Roschon Johnson in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL draft. And it seems like he was destined to be a Bear.

ESPN’s Longhorns Twitter account shared an image of Johnson donning a Bears sweatshirt during class at Texas last year — alongside an image of him fielding questions at Chicago’s rookie minicamp. It was the perfect full-circle moment.

General manager Ryan Poles admitted he was shocked that Johnson was still available when the Bears selected him in the fourth round. He appears to be the whole package, including impressive physical and leadership skillsets.

“I absolutely love this player and I love the person even more,” Poles said, via NBC Sports Chicago. “You talk about contact, balance, strength, size. We’re going to love this guy, especially when we get in December. He’s a special guy who can enhance the culture in our locker room, too.”

Expectations are high for Johnson, who will likely start his rookie season third on the depth chart behind Khalil Herbert and D’Onta Foreman. But there are many who believe Johnson could emerge as a long-term starter for Chicago.
