The Florida Gators will be one of two programs to host La Salle Academy (Providence, Rhode Island) defensive back [autotag]Justin Denson Jr[/autotag]. on an official visit in June, according to a Swamp247 report.
Denson named the Gators his top school after visiting in April and a quick return for an official visit likely means that Florida is still on top of his recruitment. Michigan State will get him over the weekend of June 2, and the Florida official visit is scheduled for June 9.
The plan is to decide things over the summer once official visits are wrapped up, so Florida is in a good spot as Denson enters the final stretch. Defensive back coach Corey Raymond’s presence has been a major one during Denson’s recruitment.
“Coach Raymond is really that guy, you can tell why he’s a legend when you meet with him,” Denson said to 247Sports. “It was great getting to know him, him getting to know me, getting a chance to watch him coach, and watch him talk to the guys. It was really an experience of a lifetime.”
Florida already has a pair of safeties locked up for the 2024 cycle in Xavier Filsaime and Josiah Davis, but adding more depth is always welcomed.
Denson is a consensus three-star recruit among the three recruiting services that have graded him. 247Sports is the only one without a star rating for him. The On3 industry ranking, which uses a weighted average of all four services, has Denson at No. 659 overall and No. 71 among safeties in the class of 2024. He’s also the top-rated recruit out of Rhode Island.
Editor’s note: Denson reached out to Gators Wire to clarify that Florida is recruiting him as a cornerback, despite 247Sports’ and On3’s listings for him as a safety.
