The eighth-seeded Florida softball team defeated the ninth-seeded Kentucky Wildcats on Thursday afternoon, 6-2, at Bogle Park in Fayetteville, Arkansas, to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2023 SEC Tournament.
The Gators (36-19) came back from a 2-1 deficit in the bottom of the fourth inning against the Wildcats (30-20-1), scoring five unanswered runs to earn the victory. Tim Walton’s squad tallied nine total hits, improving the Orange and Blue to a 37-29 overall record historically in the SEC Tournament.
SEC Player of the Year Skylar Wallace reached base safely for the 20th-straight game, going 2-for-2 at the plate with two walks along with her 19th home run of the 2023 season. Fellow SEC first-teamer Charla Echols went 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored and a pair of RBI, giving her 63 total ribbies.
