UNC snags 2-1 win on the road against No. 14 ECU

Diamond Heels catches a 2-1 win on the road against No. 14 East Carolina.

The Diamond Heels took care of business Wednesday night, outlasting Eastern Carolina in a pitching dual to win 2-1 and get back on track.

UNC picked up a much-needed win over the No. 14 Pirates after a rough ending in the loss against the Campbell Camels the night before. Usually led by their hitting, the Tar Heels counted on their pitching to pick up the win, with both teams failing to find their swing.

The game stayed at zero leading into the fourth inning until outfielder Vance Honeycutt homered to the left field for a 1-0 UNC lead. However, ECU answered back in the same inning to tie it up, continuing the sweats from the mound.

In the sixth inning, UNC was able to snag another run thanks to a fielder’s choice RBI by Hunter Stokely. That would be the last run scored of the game, giving the Tar Heels a 2-1 win over a notable opponent.

This game should serve as a massive boost of confidence for the Diamond Heels as they displayed a good fight on the road. Pitcher Dalton Pence picked up his fourth win of the season, allowing one hit in two innings. In addition, junior pitcher Connor Bovair played a significant role for the bullpen, allowing only three hits and one run in four innings.

The Diamond Heels will return on Tuesday to take on Gardner-Webb for another night of Bark at the Bosh.
