The Washington Commanders drafted a running back with the 193rd selection overall in the 6th round.
With the Commanders losing the services of J.D. McKissic in 2021 and 2022 due to injuries, the Commanders brass drafted running back Chris Rodriquez, Jr. (Kentucky).
Antonio Gibson will also be entering the last year of his rookie contract, while Jonathan Williams is age 28. Both of those factors apparently led the Commanders to select a running back in this draft to ensure some more roster depth and insurance.
As for Rodriguez, he is a hard-nosed runner with plenty of experience, having started in the Southeastern Conference for the Wildcats.
The pick not coming until 193, there of course is not the buzz that an earlier pick would bring. Yet, there was some reaction worth noting on Twitter.
