Day two of the NFL draft began as a nerve-racking day for former Auburn running back [autotag]Tank Bigsby[/autotag] due to the uncertainty of what the day would bring.
But when he learned that he would be taken by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the 88th overall pick by Jaguars general manager, Trent Baalke, all of the worry and stress melted away.
“The stress level went down,” Bigsby said after being drafted by the Jaguars in the third round. “It’s like I’m on a team, I can get to work, I know where I’m at, so I’m very excited.”
Not only was Bigsby relieved that he received a call to join the Jaguars, but he was also flabbergasted that the Jaguars selected him. He spoke with Jaguars scouts during Auburn’s Pro Day last month but had not heard from them since.
“I didn’t know, and I was so surprised because it’s so confusing how all these teams reach out to you the day of, the day before, and they just throw you off. The teams that bring you in on 30 visits and stuff like that, it throws you off,” Bigsby said. “I didn’t know. I honestly didn’t know. I was so shocked when I saw 904. I was like, ‘Florida. Wow.’ It was crazy.”
Apparently, it was not much of a surprise for the Jaguars, as they knew they wanted Bigsby after speaking with him at Pro Day. Baalke says that the addition of Bigsby will do well for their rotation at running back which includes Travis Etienne and Snoop Conner.
“At that point in time, we felt what he brings to the table, his physicality, the way he runs it between the tackles was something that we needed to add to the rotation,” Baalke said Friday.
Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson also likes the idea of Bigsby joining his RB room, as he feels that it will enhance the completion surrounding the group.
“There’s a lot of depth there,” Pederson said of his running backs. “There’s some great competition that’s going to show up when we get into training camp, obviously, with the pads on and really see how these guys do.”
