Vikings Wire gives NFL draft grade for Jordan Addison selection

An analyst at @TheVikingsWire weighs Addison’s value against the players and positions the #Vikings passed up. #NFLDraft

The Minnesota Vikings selected USC Trojans receiver Jordan Addison at No. 23 in the first round of the 2023 NFL draft. Addison was the fourth consecutive receiver to hear his name called. He will wear the same No. 3 that he wore at USC and at Pitt. He should enter the Vikings as a key contributor to this offense.

Tyler Forness of Vikings Wire graded the Vikings’ selection of Addison. He revealed a lot of reasons as to why this is a good pick for the team:

“Adding him to the roster helps bolster the wide receiver corps and will make life easier for Justin Jefferson moving forward,” Forness wrote.

“The one criticism that the Vikings will have to address is passing on both Kentucky quarterback Will Levis and Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker at 23rd overall. They need a quarterback of the future but they didn’t believe enough in those signal callers.

“The Vikings did pass up on two top cornerbacks in Joey Porter Jr. and Deonte Banks, but the top need and value on my big board was at wide receiver and with Addison.

“The player himself is excellent. Addison is great in the open field and as a route runner. The big question is if his size of 173 lbs will be a hindrance in terms of his ceiling.

Grade: B”

The board was a bit surprising this late in the first round, with no wide receivers or tight ends taken until pick No. 20, with Jaxon Smith-Njigba going to the Seattle Seahawks. Nonetheless, Addison to the Vikings makes a ton of sense, especially after veteran Adam Thielen left for the Carlina Panthers in the offseason.
