Friday has the potential to be a huge day for Rutgers men’s basketball with Lathan Sommerville set to announce his college decision early in the afternoon.
Sommerville tells Rutgers Wire that he is down to three schools ahead of Friday’s announcement: Bradley, Missouri and Rutgers. A 6-foot-10 center, Sommerville is a product from Atlanta’s Skill Factory Prep. He is a four-star recruit who is ranked the No. 92 player in the nation by Rivals.
Were Sommerville to commit to Rutgers on Friday, it would give their 2024 recruiting class three players in the top 100, all of whom are four stars. That is something that the Scarlet Knights have never achieved as a program.
“Me and my family just felt the time was right and it will allow me to just focus on hooping,” Sommerville told Rutgers Wire on Thursday night.
Rutgers currently has two recruits committed to the 2024 recruiting class: [autotag]Dellquan Warren[/autotag] (a four-star guard) and [autotag]Airious Bailey[/autotag] (a five-star forward). Also, Dylan Harper, a five-star guard from New Jersey, has Rutgers in the mix as his recruitment heads towards a likely summer commitment.

As for Sommerville, his status with Rutgers appears to be a solid one. In March, he broke down where the Big Ten program stands in his recruitment.
“Rutgers is a great place from the staff to the fans – a lot of great people in the organization and they get their players better and prepared for the next level,” Sommerville told Rutgers Wire in a March interview.
“They also have that winning culture and competitive nature that I really like.”
