Cowboys’ Brandin Cooks wows Dak Prescott after first session: ‘That is real speed’

From @ToddBrock24f7 | It took a month for the Cowboys QB to finally throw to his newest WR, but he came away from their first reps impressed by the veteran.

Cowboys fans everywhere felt a noticeable rush back in March when the club traded for well-traveled wide receiver Brandin Cooks.

Now Dak Prescott has joined the club after finally feeling the rush blow past him in real life.

The Dallas quarterback sat down for a chat on The Adam Schefter Podcast just hours after taking his first reps with the six-time 1,000-yard receiver. And he most definitely liked what he saw.

“Got a good little throwing session in today. Got to throw with B. Cooks; it’s going well.”

He didn’t offer too many details, but Prescott clearly came away from the pitch-and-catch suitably impressed.

“It’s exciting, I’ll say that. It was very exciting to throw with him today. The guy is different. That is real speed.”

The veteran boasts a 40-yard dash time of 4.33 seconds. That’s faster than Tony Pollard (4.52), Trevon Diggs (4.42), Micah Parsons (4.39), and Kelvin Joseph (4.35). It’s almost as fast as KaVontae Turpin (4.31). And while that time was recorded nearly a decade ago, it still makes Cooks faster than the starting wide receivers he’s joining, CeeDee Lamb (4.5) and Michael Gallup (4.51).

The Cowboys acquired Cooks specifically to add that missing element of deep speed in the passing attack. It took a month to finally get the QB and WR together, but it appears to have been worth the wait.

“First time I got to throw to him,” Prescott explained to the ESPN insider. “Just when we signed him, I’d been back home.”

The Cowboys will be the fifth team for Cooks in a pro career now entering its tenth year. Having been traded away four times before his 30th birthday makes him the answer to a popular trivia question, but the journeyman Cooks is eager to make Dallas his permanent football home.

Prescott sounds pretty excited about that possibility, too.

“We’re blessed to have him. Hey, it all works out for us.”
