Colts hosted SMU WR Rashee Rice for top-30 visit

Rashee Rice was in the building for a visit Monday.

The Indianapolis Colts hosted SMU wide receiver Rashee Rice for a top-30 visit ahead of the 2023 NFL draft Monday.

With the need to add some depth to the wide receiver position, the Colts brought in Rice to the facility for one of their 30 visits, according to his Instagram story.

A team captain who attended the Senior Bowl this offseason, Rice was a second-team All-American selection following the 2022 campaign. He didn’t break out until his senior season despite three years of starting, but he did so in a big way. He recorded 96 receptions for 1.355 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Measuring in at 6-foot and 204 pounds, Rice posted a 4.51 in the 40-yard dash and impressed with a 41-inch vertical and 10-foot-8-inch broad jump at the NFL combine.

Rice is still developing the nuances of route running, but his excellent body control allows him to be one of the best contested-catch artists in the draft class. He doesn’t have great top-end speed, but he has enough explosiveness to make up for it.

Rice also checks the boxes of being a team captain and a player who is willing to do the dirty work as a run blocker. He’s currently projected as a late Day 2, early Day 3 pick.

We’ll be tracking the Colts’ reported interest in the 2023 draft class so be sure to keep up with latest updates via our tracker.
