Former UFC fighter [autotag]Karl Roberson[/autotag] is facing several charges after he and another man allegedly burglarized a New Jersey home of $200,000 worth of jewelry and other valuables, according to police.
Roberson and Dathan Thompson, both 32, were arrested and identified as the alleged burglars by the Howell Township Police Department, which was announced in a press release. Roberson’s arrest occurred during a traffic stop in Neptune during which he had been driving a vehicle that police believed to be connected to the burglary.
“A search of the vehicle revealed a defaced 9mm handgun with an extended magazine, several packages of suspected ‘crack cocaine,’ marijuana and items related to the burglary,” police said.
Roberson was booked into county jail on charges of burglary, theft, criminal mischief, possession of controlled dangerous substance, and several weapons offenses. Detective Ryan Jackson told MMA Fighting that Roberson spent “two or three weeks” in custody but was released.
According to police, Roberson and Thompson pried open a rear door to the residence and made their way to the master bedroom where they allegedly lifted $200,000 worth of goods. Home security surveillance cameras captured the suspects, who were wearing masks, both inside and outside the home.
If convicted of the felony charges, Roberson faces up to 10 years in prison.
Roberson earned his UFC opportunity through Dana White’s Contender Series in 2017 and made 10 appearances with the promotion, posting a 4-6 record. He exited the UFC on a four-fight losing streak, which culminated with a third-round TKO loss to Kennedy Nzechukwu last July at UFC on ESPN 39.
