Game Recap & Highlights: Baseball – Texas A&M vs Texas State

Texas A&M gets a hard fought win over the Texas State Bobcats

I’ve never seen this many pitchers in a game in a very long time. Texas A&M (18-11) went through eight pitchers and Texas State (19-10) also went through eight pitchers. But I totally get it, the starting Aggie pitcher didn’t even get out of the first inning and the Bobcats’ starting pitcher didn’t come back in the second. Both teams gave up way too many runs in the opening frame irritating fans of both teams. Texas A&M was able to outlast the Bobcats for the win, but it did not come easy.

To open up the game Texas A&M gave up five runs in a predictable fashion. Two singles and two walks gave the Bobcats their first easy run. Then with two outs and bases loaded Texas State blasted a home run to left field for a 0-5 lead. The Texas State pitcher didn’t fare much better giving up multiple hits to the Aggies. Brett Minnich and Trevor Werner both hit RBI singles scoring Hunter Hass and Austin Bost to cut the lead to 2-5. That was followed up with a Jace LaViolette two run double to center field scoring Werner and Minnich. The last score of the inning was on a throwing error by the shortstop allowing LaViolette to score tying it 5-5.

The Aggies slowly started to pull away in the fourth inning with a Haas two-run homer over the left field fence then Jordan Thompson went yard to left center for another two runs extending the lead to 5-9.

Texas State tried to make a comeback with a three-run double bringing them within one point followed up by a solo shot in the top of the seventh to tie the game 9-9. Moving into the bottom of the seventh, Austin Bost put the Aggies up 10-9 after a double to center field scoring Jack Moss.

Chris Cortez, who’s been having a up and down season, came into the game with one out and a runner on third base in the top of the eighth. He struck out the next two batters then in the top of the ninth, he had three straight ground outs giving Texas A&M the mid-week win over Texas State 10-9

Final Score: Aggies 10, Bobcats 9 – W: Garica, Brandyn (1-0); L: Dixon, Triston (1-1); S: Cortez, Chris (1)

The Aggie will be back in league play starting their three-game series against the Auburn Tigers starting on Thursday.
