Success on the gridiron is not only built on recruiting top-tier talent at every position but in order to compete for a National Title year to year, veteran experience is needed at critical positions on offense and defense to bring a certain level of consistency week to week.
For Texas A&M, head coach Jimbo Fisher has done an adequate job of filling holes through recruiting and the transfer portal this offseason, notably adding two defensive backs including former five-star cornerback Tony Grimes, and the versatile cornerback/safety Sam McCall during the first two months the portal was opened.
Well, more help may be on the way after news dropped that the Aggies have sent an offer to former Boston College grad transfer CB Josh DeBerry. As the transfer portal will re-open from May 1st to May 15th for all remaining undergraduate transfers, grad transfers still have the ability to choose a new program at any time.
DeBerry’s career at Boston College was highly productive and he was an All-ACC selection during the 2022 season with a stat line of 50 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and an interception as the nickel back spot. During the 2021 season, he earned second-team all-conference honors while netting 53 tackles, 8 tackles for loss, one sack, and two interceptions. During his 2022 sophomore season, DeBerry accumulated 44 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, and one interception.
So far, Texas A&M is the biggest offer he’s received out of the Portal, joining Coastal Carolina and Wisconsin. In the midst of spring football practice, DeBerry’s impending decision could come down to a positive weekend visit to College Station sometime this month.
