Is Jaylen Brown the best shooting guard in the NBA? According to Boston Celtics teammate Malcolm Brogdon, he absolutely is. However, in terms of how he has been used by his team this season, there is a very good case to be made that Brown is not even a shooting guard, but a wing/small forward given Brown has played the bulk of his minutes alongside two bona fide guards this season.
Why does that matter, you ask? Well, if Brown makes any of the three All-NBA teams this season, he will be supermax eligible and in a position to be offered more money by the Celtics than any other team, which could prove important to retaining his services. And by most accounts, the easier path there is as a forward, not as a guard.
Players end up being counted as whichever position they are voted at most, so this one is up to the writers, but if we consider Brown a guard, is he actually close to the best 2 in the league?
The hosts of the CLNS Media “Celtics Beat” podcast recently analyzed Brogdon’s claim about Brown; take a look at the clip embedded above to hear where they came down on the Cal alum as the league’s best off guard.
