Will spring quarterback battles impact the next transfer window?

A look at 6 QB battles that could impact the next transfer window.

The transfer portal has become as important as the NFL free agency period. You could most certainly argue that is college athletics’ version of free agency.

The first window for transfers began on Dec. 5, 2022, following conference championship games. It officially closed on Jan. 18, 2023, 45 days after it opened. The second window will become available on May 1 and run through May 15, after spring football comes to a halt.

If it is anything like what we saw in the first portal window for the 2023 college football season, we could be in for a wild ride. Among the big movers was former Michigan quarterback Cade McNamara who committed to play for the Iowa Hawkeyes. Not to be outdone by Jackson State’s two-way star Travis Hunter, who followed Coach Prime to Boulder.

Last May Pitt wide receiver Jordan Addison opted to transfer and landed in Southern California with the Trojans after flirting with Alabama and Texas. It was the biggest move of the summer as the defending Biletnikoff winner chose to link up with eventual Heisman Trophy winner, Caleb Williams.

Our focus is going to remain on the quarterbacks here and there could be ample movement come May for signal-callers who lose these quarterback battles. There will also be ample quarterback needy teams ready to swoop in.

Here are few situations that you should be aware of.
