Bears expected to sign TE Robert Tonyan

The Bears are signing former Packers TE Robert Tonyan, according to Adam Schefter.

The Chicago Bears are expected to sign former Green Bay Packers tight end Robert Tonyan to a one-year deal, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Tonyan is familiar with offensive coordinator Luke Getsy’s scheme, having played with Getsy in Green Bay from 2010-21. Tonyan excels as a receiver, as evidenced during his five years with the Packers.

Last season, Tonyan had 53 receptions on 63 targets for 470 yards with two touchdowns.

Tonyan will serve as a complement to tight end Cole Kmet, who’s coming off an impressive year with the Bears where he led the team in receptions (50), receiving yards (544) and touchdowns (7).

Tonyan, a McHenry, Ill. native, serves as another pass catcher for quarterback Justin Fields heading into a pivotal Year 3.
