The Chargers have secured their backup quarterback.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Monday morning that Los Angeles agreed to terms with 2019 fifth-rounder Easton Stick on a new contract to keep him in LA.
Tom Pelissero of NFL Network later reported that Stick’s new deal is for one year and $1.8 million. Stick had a cap hit of $1.03 million in 2022.
While Stick has never taken an NFL regular season snap, the Chargers rave about his ability to conduct the scout team in practice and he has a close relationship with Justin Herbert. LA will obviously hope that Herbert stays healthy and prevents a backup from seeing the field in 2023 and beyond, so re-signing a locker-room presence such as Stick makes a lot of sense.
Chase Daniel is now the only member of the 2022 quarterback room that remains unsigned. He is an unrestricted free agent and a candidate to retire.
