2023 NFL draft: Giants awarded two compensatory picks

As anticipated, the New York Giants have been awarded two compensatory picks in the 2023 NFL draft.

The New York Giants were awarded two compensatory draft selections in the upcoming 2023 NFL draft by the league on Thursday.

Under the rules for compensatory draft selections, a team “losing more or better compensatory free agents (“CFA”) than it acquires in the previous year is eligible to receive compensatory draft picks.”

In the Giants’ case, they will receive a fifth- and a seventh-rounder as a net result of losing linebacker Lorenzo Carter, tight end Evan Engram, defensive back Keion Crossen and defensive lineman Austin Johnson and gaining back guard Mark Glowinski and quarterback Tyrod Taylor.

The picks increase the Giants’ total number of selections this year from nine to 11, giving general manager Joe Schoen more flexibility and firepower to maneuver and improve his roster.

Having four top-100 picks will also provide a little bonus for the Giants and Schoen.
