There is no doubt that the Minnesota Vikings need cornerback help this off-season as they only have three players under contract. With a loaded cornerback class in the NFL draft, it’s possible the Vikings could look there to bolster their depth.
On Thursday, Luke Esterling of Draft Wire released a three-round mock draft and had the Vikings trading up in the first round to select Maryland cornerback Deonte Banks.
This defense needs all kinds of help, and hiring Brian Flores as the new coordinator was a huge step in the right direction. He’ll need to reload the personnel, though, and the biggest need is at corner. Banks backed up his strong film with a fantastic combine performance, making him well worth a third-round pick to the Lions to jump ahead of the corner-needy Bucs to make sure they land him.
While Banks is a great fit for the Vikings, Given the draft’s insane depth and the Vikings’ limited draft capital, it’s difficult to see the Vikings trading up for a cornerback in the first round.
Banks is a physical corner who has the versatility to play man coverage and zone coverage. He’s dependable in the run game and has the potential to be a strong cornerback at the next level. It’s just difficult to see the Vikings moving up to grab him.
