Former Texas men’s basketball coach Chris Beard is already hearing his name discussed in major coaching searches.
OMSpirit reports Beard met with Ole Miss officials on Monday regarding their head coach opening. Ole Miss let go of head coach Kermit Davis earlier this season after six seasons with the team.
Texas fired Beard after legal issues involving an assault on a family member back in Dec. Beard’s charges have since been dropped, opening the door to a potential return to college basketball.
Beard has a successful track record as a head coach and recruiter at high-level college basketball. Most notably, Beard led Texas Tech to a national title game appearance in 2019. He holds a record of 171-73 as a head coach with 11 NCAA Tournament wins.
Beard is likely going to be one of the more accomplished coaches on the job market this offseason.
