Former five-star quarterback Arch Manning took the field for the first time as a Longhorn on Monday as Texas began spring practice.
While many expect Quinn Ewers to remain the starter for the 2023 season, Manning has the chance to surpass Maalik Murphy on the depth chart to serve as Ewers’ primary backup.
Murphy is physically gifted and talented, but he’s still nursing the same ankle injury from high school. Sarkisian noted Murphy would be limited to begin spring practice for that reason.
Here’s a look at Ewers and Manning throwing side by side on Monday. Ewers is throwing to freshman wide receiver Johntay Cook, while Manning was paired with freshman wide receiver DeAndre Moore.
