Jordan Battle would love to reunite with Giants’ Xavier McKinney

Alabama safety Jordan Battle says he would love to reunite with New York Giants safety Xavier McKinney, who he calls a mentor.

The New York Giants could be in the market for a safety this offseason, especially if they can’t come to terms with impending free agent Julian Love, the team’s leading tackler last year.

One target could be Jordan Battle, who crossed paths with Xavier McKinney when the two played at Alabama in 2019. Battle spoke about his former teammate and friend on the podium at the NFL Scouting Combine this week in Indianapolis.

“Another one of those great mentors,” Battle told reporters. “A lot of people don’t know, Xavier McKinney, he was still in the dorms when I got there. So, I don’t think he ever moved out of the dorms. So, that was great. … I always remember he had a husky. … He helped me understand the playbook faster.”

Asked what it would it be like to join McKinney in the Giants’ secondary, Battle was respective to the idea.

“Yeah, it would be great. Me and X still talk to this day. He’s always on the game, I’m a big gamer guy, too. So, that would be a great linkup,” he said.

Battle fared well at the combine, running a 4.55 40-yard dash with a 1.56 second10-yard split and 17 reps on the bench press. He has the size (6′ 1″, 210) and temperament to be a productive NFL player and is projected to be a Day 2 selection in the draft.
