After suffering a 32-point loss at Kentucky last Saturday, the Auburn Tigers needed a win over archrival Alabama in order to keep their NCAA Tournament hopes alive, or at least give the No. 2 Crimson Tide a run for their money.
Auburn was able to do the latter, as they forced the game into overtime before falling, 90-85 in overtime on Wednesday in Tuscaloosa.
Auburn led the game for 36:53, but Alabama’s endurance caught up with the Tigers in overtime and allowed the Crimson Tide to pull away. There were many contributors to Auburn’s win, some even competing until they were told they could no longer do so.
Four Tigers reached double figures, with [autotag]Wendell Green Jr.[/autotag] on the cusp of being the fifth with nine points. Three of those four fouled out during the game: [autotag]Allen Flanigan[/autotag], [autotag]Johni Broome[/autotag], and [autotag]Jaylin Williams[/autotag].
However, out of all the great performances in a grueling game, it was [autotag]K.D. Johnson[/autotag] that stood out the most, thus sweeping Tiger of the Game votes.
Here’s a look at why Auburn Wire writers Taylor Jones, J.D. McCarthy, and River Wells, as well as Auburn fans, voted for Johnson as their Tiger of the Game following Auburn’s loss to Alabama.
