Tennessee pitcher Karlyn Pickens was named SEC Freshman of the Week Monday.
Pickens pitched a four-hit shutout in the Lady Vols’ 1-0 victory against Clemson Saturday in the USF Tournament in Tampa Florida.
She surrendered one walk and recorded eight strikeouts in seven innings.
Pickens has recorded two wins this season, both shutouts, and has an 0.75 ERA. In 18.2 innings, she has posted 18 strikeouts.
Pickens is the first Lady Vol to be named freshman of the week since Kaitlin Parsons won the award April 16, 2019.
Tennessee will play its first home games Friday in the Tennessee Classic.
The Lady Vols host Appalachian State at 3 p.m. EST and Jacksonville State at 5 p.m. EST.
