Lady Vols record two wins on first day of USF Tournament

Tennessee softball records two wins on the first day of the USF Tournament.

The No. 12 Lady Vols (8-1) opened play in the USF Tournament Friday with a pair of run-rule victories in Tampa, Florida.

Tennessee defeated Michigan State (6-5), 13-0, in its first game of the day.

Zaida Puni went 3-for-4, recording three RBIs, two runs and one double for Tennessee.

Katie Taylor recorded one double and hit one home run for the Lady Vols.

Tennessee scored five runs in the first inning and totaled five extra-base hits in the contest.

Ashley Rogers (3-0) pitched a five-inning complete game, allowing one hit and recording eight strikeouts for the Lady Vols.

Tennessee returned to the diamond and defeated USF (4-9), 9-0, in six innings.

The game was tied, 0-0, before Tennessee scored three runs in the fifth inning on a home run by Kiki Milloy.

Payton Gottshall (3-0) pitched six innings, surrendering one hit, while recording 11 strikeouts for Tennessee.
