Now that Derek Carr has been officially released by the Las Vegas Raiders, the odds of them drafting a quarterback with their top pick are on the rise by the minute. There aren’t many great options in free agency and there certainly aren’t any franchise quarterbacks out there that can go toe-to-toe with Patrick Mahomes or Justin Herbert.
That’s why the best strategy might just be to pick a quarterback at No. 7 and try to win while that quarterback is on a rookie deal. But what quarterback would make the most sense for the Raiders with their top pick and who will even be available?
In a recent mock draft done by Daniel Jeremiah of NFL.com, he had the Raiders selecting Kentucky QB Will Levis at No. 7. Here is his explanation behind the pick:
“The picture will be clearer after we get through the quarterback carousel in free agency, but as of now, the Raiders need someone at the position. Levis has incredible tools.”
Levis has Matthew Stafford-like upside, but he just needs to find the right coach and the right offense to develop his tools. Is that in Las Vegas under Josh McDaniels? It does feel like a good fit, especially with all of the weapons the Raiders have going into the 2023 season.
Don’t be surprised if Levis is the quarterback the Raiders target in the 2023 NFL Draft to be their next franchise passer.
