Oregon-USC women’s game on Friday is a double bubble battle

Both USC and Oregon are likely to make the NCAA Tournament, but they both have work to do. They’re not locks. Not yet.

We are talking to Ducks Wire for more on the University of Oregon women’s basketball team heading into Friday’s game against the USC Trojans in the Galen Center. We can’t help but notice that both Oregon and USC are bubble teams. Oregon just got swept at home by Colorado and Utah. The Ducks previously lost to Oregon State and have profoundly struggled over the past month.

Just how worried should Oregon be about making the NCAA Tournament? We asked Ducks Wire analyst Donald Smalley about that particular point.

Trojans Wire:

“Is Oregon in real bubble trouble or not?”

Donald Smalley, Ducks Wire:

“Right now, no. Their net ranking is still very good, but they need to turn these losses into wins eventually. They’re very capable of going into LA and sweeping. Just a split would pretty much solidify an NCAA berth. There’s time to get on a roll here and perhaps get a high enough seed to host the first 2 rounds. But time is running out.”
