According to Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, the massive GTA 6 leak from last year took an emotional toll on Rockstar’s employees.
During Take-Two’s latest financial earnings call, Zelnick briefly spoke on the impact GTA 6‘s leak had on everyone still working on the game (thanks, IGN).
“We take leaks very seriously indeed and they disappoint all of us – it’s really frustrating and upsetting to the team,” Zelnick said. “However, as a business matter, we’re not affected. But as a personal matter and an emotional matter, our teams are affected.”
Bits and pieces of unfinished GTA 6 gameplay footage took the video game industry by surprise in September 2023. Most of the snippets were of a work-in-progress build that was clearly unfinished – and didn’t reveal much about the game. However, some details, like its setting and protagonist options, seemingly did come out of that whole saga. Most everything about the game is still up in the air and subject to change, though.
Take-Two also announced that GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 have gone on to ship more than 175 million and 50 million copies, respectively. Incredibly, GTA 5 sold around five million copies alone last fall despite being almost a decade old.
