Giants select OL O’Cyrus Torrence in latest The Athletic mock draft

In the latest 2023 NFL mock draft from The Athletic, the New York Giants miss out on some receivers but end up taking OL O’Cyrus Torrence.

The New York Giants may have finished the season in the NFC Divisional Playoffs but that doesn’t mean they are a finished product.

They have nine selections in the upcoming NFL draft, and could possibly wind up with 11 if they are awarded two compensatory picks that draft experts are projecting to them.

In the first round, the Giants hold the 25th overall selection. Who will they target?

Nick Baumgardner of The Athletic believes Joe Schoen will continue to fortify the offense line with 6-foot-5, 346-pound Florida guard O’Cyrus Torrence.

With several coveted passing game targets off the board (Notre Dame TE Michael Mayer and wide receivers Jordan Addison of USC, Jaxon Smith-Njigba of Ohio State and TCU’s Quentin Johnson), the Giants will decide to address the offensive line and add some top talent.

Receiver remains a bigger need for the Giants, and it’s not impossible that they walk out of pick 25 with Addison or Johnston. If both of those receivers are gone (as they are here), Torrence would be the best pure guard on the board. He had an outstanding year blocking in front of (QB Anthony) Richardson at Florida, and he’d be ready to roll for a team that doesn’t need to wait around anymore.

At No. 25, the Giants will have to watch a lot of premium talent get snatched up before they are on the clock. That is fine, as there are always enough players to go around.

Torrence would be a welcome presence in the middle of the Giants’ line as they have been undermanned due to injury the past few years.
