In his first 2023 NFL mock draft, ESPN’s Mel Kiper has the Denver Broncos selecting Notre Dame edge defender Isaiah Foskey with the 29th overall pick in the first round (subscription required for link).
The Broncos traded away their original 2023 first-round pick to the Seattle Seahawks last year as part of the Russell Wilson trade. Denver later acquired a first-round pick from the San Francisco 49ers (through the Miami Dolphins) in the Bradley Chubb trade.
Now without Chubb and Von Miller, Kiper believes the Broncos would be wise to add a top pass rusher with the Niners’ pick in April. Kiper acknowledged that the offensive line is a glaring need, but he does not believe a surefire OL starter will be available late in the first round of the draft.
So Kiper has Denver landing on Foskey a 6-5, 265-pound defensive end in college who might be asked to switch to outside linebacker if selected by an NFL team that runs a base 3-4 defense. He totaled 22 sacks in his final two seasons (25 games) with the Fighting Irish.
This year’s draft will be held in Kansas City from April 27-29.
