The Philadelphia 76ers will be looking to move forward in the Eastern Conference as they look to set themselves up for a deep run in the playoffs, but they also have to think about the future.
The Sixers are pushing against the luxury tax in the 2022-23 season and as they move forward, the expectation has been that they will make a smaller deal before the Feb. 9 trade deadline in order to shed some salary.
Per Marc Stein via his substack, Philadelphia is expected to move one of their fringe rotation players before the deadline:
There is a rising expectation that Philadelphia will look to move either Jaden Springer or Furkan Korkmaz before the Feb. 9 trade deadline in hopes of shedding luxury-tax dollars.
Korkmaz has been with the Sixers for the entirety of his five seasons in the NBA, but it is clear that he has been pushed out of the rotation. He is averaging just 10.9 minutes per game, the lowest since his rookie season (5.7) and he is shooting just 34.3% from deep on the season.
As for Springer, there just hasn’t been a clear path for him to find a way into the rotation to play. There are plenty of veterans ahead of him and it will be interesting to see how the Sixers handle everything before the deadline.
