The Texas Longhorns will finish the 2022 season in the Top 25. The Associated Press ranks the team No. 25 in its final ranking.
The Longhorns improved in Steve Sarkisian’s second year. Texas finished with eight regular season wins for the first time since 2018. It was a huge step forward for the program. Even so, the team will have higher expectations after this season.
There’s a wide gap between No. 1 Georgia and No. 25 Texas this year. Albeit, there was a significant difference between the Bulldogs and the now No. 2 TCU Horned Frogs on Monday night. Sonny Dykes’ team fell 65-7 in perhaps the most lopsided national championship we’ve seen.
Georgia’s dominance over TCU illustrates how far Texas must go before it can compete for a national championship. Nevertheless, with all it returns the team could be poised to take another step forward in 2023. The Longhorns will look to be higher on the list next season.
