The Chiefs’ star quarterback is now a part owner of a third sports team in Kansas City.
On Tuesday, the Kansas City Current NWSL team announced that Patrick Mahomes had joined his wife Brittany as a member of the club’s ownership group. Patrick has long been a supporter of the KC Current team, which was most recently displayed when he wished them luck ahead of their 2022 NWSL Championship match.
“We are so thrilled to make this a family affair,” Brittany Mahomes said, via press release. “(Mahomes) has been a huge supporter behind the scenes. His passion for the Current is undeniable, and I am glad that he will be with us as we continue on our journey to become the best in the NWSL.”

This is the third ownership stake for Patrick in a Kansas City-based team, alongside the Kansas City Royals and Sporting KC. He is now the first active NFL player to have an ownership stake in an NWSL club. It’s yet another root to keep the Mahomes family embedded in the Kansas City community.
“I am thankful for the chance to join my wife as a part of the Kansas City Current’s ownership team,” Patrick said, via press release. “Brittany and the Longs have done an incredible job building a world-class organization. I am excited to join another championship-caliber club as it continues to make history.”

The KC Current organization is doing big things lately, with Mahomes’ addition being their latest endeavor. In October, they broke ground on the first stadium built specifically for a women’s professional team. They made it to the 2022 NWSL Championship, but they fell short against the North Carolina Courage. Just days ago, they announced they’d signed Brazillian soccer star, Debinha, as a free agent.
