The Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals game will not be resumed this week.
The NFL announced that decision after Monday night’s game was halted in the first quarter when Bills cornerback Demar Hamlin went into cardiac arrest on the field.
The league sent out the following statement regarding the decision to not play the game in Week 18:
NFL UPDATE ON BILLS-BENGALS GAME AND WEEK 18 SCHEDULE
The NFL continues to be in regular contact with the medical team caring for Damar Hamlin, and also the Bills and Bengals organizations and the NFL Players Association.
After speaking with both teams and NFLPA leadership, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell informed the clubs today that the Bills-Bengals game will not be resumed this week.
The NFL has made no decision regarding the possible resumption of the game at a later date.
The league has not made any changes to the Week 18 regular season schedule.
We will continue to provide additional information as it becomes available.
Hamlin, 24, is hospitalized only a few miles from where the game was being played at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati. Hamlin remains in critical condition. at University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
Waves of support have come out for Hamlin, via acts of service, messages and donations.
With Bills-Bengals not being played this week, that would mean Buffalo’s next matchup will be against the New England Patriots on Sunday at 1 p.m.
There is a possibility the Bengals matchup could be played after that and prior to the postseason, which both Buffalo and Cincinnati have qualified for.
