The first cheetah of the Brent Venables era, DaShaun White, announced on Sunday that he has declared for the NFL draft. With no eligibility remaining after this season, it was time for White to take the next step in his football career.
A linebacker as fast as White will be interesting to watch on draft night. Only Danny Stutsman played more snaps on defense than White this season. He racked up 249 tackles during his five years in Norman. In 2022, White recorded 90 tackles, six tackles for loss, two sacks, two interceptions, and six passes defended.

White’s speed and coverage ability will stand out most to NFL scouts and general managers. Though not likely to be a top 100 pick in the 2023 NFL draft, he’ll find his way onto an NFL roster with his experience and coverage capabilities in a pass-happy NFL.
It’s easy to wonder just who will be the cheetah for the Sooners next season with White gone. Freshman Jaren Kanak saw the most snaps there when White missed time against Nebraska and fared quite well. Although, on the latest OU depth chart, Kanak was not listed under the cheetah position. Then again, he wasn’t listed as a cheetah on the first depth chart released back in August, either.
