Eagles defeat Giants to help Commanders’ playoff chances

The Commanders moved back into the playoff picture on their week off.

Not often do fans of the Washington Commanders root for the Philadelphia Eagles. However, in Week 14, the NFC East-leading Eagles played the Giants from the Meadowlands, and Washington fans were clearly rooting for Philadelphia.

Why?

The Eagles are running away with the NFC East, but the Giants held the NFC’s No. 6 playoff spot entering Sunday’s game, with the Commanders sitting a half-game out of the No. 7 position held by the Seattle Seahawks.

The Eagles dominated the Giants, rolling up 437 yards of total offense in a 48-22 win over New York. The loss dropped the Giants to 7-5-1 on the season.

New York and Washington now have identical records heading into the Week 15 edition of Sunday Night Football. While each team has three games remaining after next week, the Week 15 battle between the Giants and Commanders likely determines at least one of the NFC’s final two playoff spots.

After Sunday’s early games, the Commanders — who are on a bye week — moved into the No. 7 spot, while the Giants dropped out of the playoff picture to No. 8. However, if the Carolina Panthers defeat the Seahawks Sunday evening, the Giants will move back into the No. 7 spot, while the Commanders move up to No. 6.

There’s no denying next week is a huge one for New York and Washington.
