UConn vs. Oregon odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s UConn at Oregon odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The No. 22 UConn Huskies (5-0) are at Moda Center to battle the Oregon Ducks (2-2) Thursday in the Phil Knight Invitational. Tip-off is at 8 p.m. ET (ESPN2). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the UConn vs. Oregon odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Rankings courtesy of the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.

UConn comes in after trouncing Delaware State 95-60 in its last game Sunday. This win got the Huskies into the top 25 as they’ve been particularly good early in the season. They have been led by F Adama Sanogo, who tallied 26 points in just 23 minutes during the blowout win.

Oregon began the season ranked in the top 25 but has fallen out after losing 2 of its first 4 games. A 69-56 home loss to UC-Irvine on Nov. 11 dropped them from the ranks and a 66-56 loss to then-No. 3 Houston on Sunday continued the fall down the ranks. This will be another extremely tough game for an Oregon team that will be playing its first game outside its home arena in Eugene.

UConn vs. Oregon picks and predictions

Prediction

UConn 83, Oregon 76

Moneyline

PASS.

The ML is small enough in this game to make a wager, but the feeling of UConn being the much better team leads me to stay away from the line in favor of the spread.

Oregon has struggled to score this season and is coming off a 56-point performance at home in its last outing. Stay away and go with the spread instead.

Against the spread

BET UCONN -2.5 (-115).

In most cases, with a line this small, the ML is a fine way to give yourself some cushion. In this game, I do not think it will be as close as the line.

UConn has played well this season, including the 35-point win against Delaware State. Oregon has lost 2 games by at least 10 points at home so far, and this will be the first time the Ducks go outside Eugene. Even though they’re still in Portland, it will be far enough from home for UConn to make them pay.

Oregon may keep this close for a while, but the Huskies will pull away and win comfortably. UCONN -2.5 (-115) is my favorite play.

Over/Under

Before scoring 95 against Delaware State, UConn had scored an average of 85 points in its first 4 games with totals of 85, 86, 84 and 86 points. The Huskies have been extremely consistent and while Oregon is better than other teams they’ve played, UConn will still put up points at Moda Center.

Oregon will need to strive to keep up, and that will push the game Over the 139.5 total, and it could get to 150 or higher. I like the OVER 139.5 (-110) as much as I like the spread.
