Giants’ Daniel Jones: Playing on Thanksgiving a ‘huge opportunity’

New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll has a lot of experience playing on Thanksgiving Day, but QB Daniel Jones has none whatsoever.

The New York Giants have their work cut out for them on Thursday when they face the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day.

The tradition of football on Thanksgiving goes back decades and is an integral part of many family gatherings each year. This year is no different, and while Brian Daboll has coached on Thanksgiving in the past, his quarterback has never played on the holiday.

At his press conference on Tuesday, Daboll was asked what it means to play on Thanksgiving.

“This is the sixth time that I’ve been part of this game, not necessarily against Dallas — third time against Dallas, I think. It’s great, it’s a great tribute — you know? You remember when you’re a kid, sitting down and watching television and the games and Madden and turducken and all those type of things. Again, we got a big challenge ahead of us in Dallas and that’s where we got to keep it,” Daboll said.

Daniel Jones was also asked about what it means to play on Thanksgiving.

“I think it’s a huge opportunity for us, it’s a divisional game against a rival and on Thanksgiving. Huge game, huge opportunity for us, and we’ve got to go out and play our best ball, play as well as we can and see how it goes,” he said.

A huge opportunity, indeed, especially for a player who’s never played on Thanksgiving, not even in high school.

Both Daboll and Jones see this game as a huge opportunity and know that their performance will affect the remainder of the season. It’s not going to be an easy game for the Giants, but they’re prepared with the weapons they have on hand and plan to put their best foot forward. Hopefully it’s enough to earn a win.
