Star power is headed to Boulder.
Cody Williams, the No. 21 overall 2023 men’s basketball recruit in the country — and a five-star recruit according to 24/7 Sports’ composite rankings — committed and signed with Colorado over LSU on Wednesday, putting to bed a recruiting process that saw Williams’ stock rise rapidly over the past year. Williams is now the highest-rated prospect to sign with the Buffs in Tad Boyle’s tenure.
Williams, the brother of 2022 NBA first-round draft pick Jalen Williams, currently profiles as a slasher with great athleticism. He has a solid jump shot in his repertoire and makes smart decisions on offense, picking his spots to attack and deferring to his teammates when needed. On that front, Williams is also a good passer who doesn’t make many mistakes as a ball handler.
He has a skinny build at 6-foot-8 and 180 pounds, but his length and defensive potential certainly provide traits for Boyle and the rest of the Colorado coaching staff to work with.
Williams has the potential to become a focal point for Colorado over his time with the program, and his commitment elevates the Buffs’ 2023 class as well from 73rd to 40th nationally (per 247Sports).
He’s the second commitment in Colorado’s 2023 class, joining three-star shooting guard Courtney Anderson.
