The New York Islanders (3-4-0) and Carolina Hurricanes (4-1-1) meet Friday at PNC Arena in Raleigh, N.C. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Islanders vs. Hurricanes odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.
The Islanders are just 1-3-0 across the past 4 outings, but that win was a huge one. The Isles blanked the Rangers 3-0 at UBS Arena Wednesday, giving them a little jump in their step as they head out on the road for 4 of the next 5 outings.
The Hurricanes know all about the road, as they haven’t been home since Oct. 12 due to the North Carolina State Fair using their lot for parking. The Canes did well on their Western road trip, going 3-1-1, including a 3-2 win at the Vancouver Canucks Monday to wrap things up.

Islanders at Hurricanes projected goalies
Ilya Sorokin (2-3-0, 2.26 GAA, .931 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Frederik Andersen (3-1-0, 2.26 GAA, .913 SV%)
Sorokin was on fire against the Blueshirts Wednesday, turning aside all 41 of the shots he faced in a 3-0 win. He has allowed 3 or fewer goals in 4 of his 5 outings, with a lone ugly game at the Tampa Bay Lightning Saturday as the exception. He’s really on when he’s on and is one of the better netminders in the East.
Andersen helped the Canes wrap up the West Coast trip with success, stopping 14 of 16 shots for a win. He started the last, and only, home game for the Hurricanes when he topped the Blue Jackets with 31 saves on 32 shots Oct. 12.

Islanders at Hurricanes picks and predictions
Prediction
Hurricanes 3, Islanders 1
Moneyline
The Hurricanes (-200) are going to feel like a fish out of water back home after such a long layoff. Expect a slow start in front of the home fans before finally getting back into good habits.
Laying 2 times your potential return is risking business, especially with Sorokin and the Islanders going for a shutout last time out.
PASS.
Puck line/Against the spread
The HURRICANES -1.5 (+133) is a better play, although it comes with its own risk. I expect Carolina to get off to a slow start, and the Islanders might even score the first goal. However, Carolina will get it done, and a late empty-net goal should secure the puck-line cover.
Over/Under
UNDER 5.5 (+100) is the best play here if you don’t like late-game drama, waiting on the ENG to grab a cover.
Sorokin is brimming with confidence after shutting out one of the best teams in the East, and Andersen has allowed 2 or fewer goals in 3 of his 4 starts. This Under is a tremendous value at plus money.
