One key stat from the CU Buffs’ loss in Corvallis

This stat was especially glaring from Saturday

Where do we begin?

JT Shrout got the start for Mike Sanford’s Colorado Buffaloes on Saturday, a game in which they were fresh off a victory against Cal a week before. Unfortunately, Shrout couldn’t find much rhythm against a tough Oregon State Beavers team and threw two interceptions in Corvallis.

The key stat of the game is this… four turnovers. It isn’t a good one, either, but this shows how rough it has been offensively for the Buffs all year long.

Oregon State punched the Buffs in the mouth and got the 42-9 victory. Shrout threw a pair of interceptions, and running backs Charlie Offerdahl and Anthony Hankerson each fumbled in a tough outing for Colorado.

It wasn’t what Mike Sanford wanted to see exactly, but the interim head coach continued to insist that his team was fighting all the way until the end.

“Guys were fighting and continuing to find some fun in the game of football, even in the fourth quarter and in the huddle offensively as we moved the ball,” Sanford said. “I was really proud of how the offense continued to respond. We’ve just got to take care of the football.”

At the very least, the Buffs fought hard, even though the final score doesn’t indicate that one bit.

The 1-6 Buffaloes now face Arizona State, but after that, it is a brutal stretch with games against Oregon, USC and Washington before Utah comes to Folsom to finish out the season. That is as rough as it gets.
