Dolphins work out 4 running backs on Tuesday

They did end up signing one.

After releasing ZaQuandre White from their practice squad on Monday, the Miami Dolphins decided to fill that open spot with another running back.

The team ended up signing former New York Jets running back La’Mical Perine, but they also had three others in on Tuesday to vie for the practice squad role – Nate McCrary, Abram Smith and Antonio Williams.

Williams went undrafted back in 2020 out of North Carolina. He spent his first two seasons with the Buffalo Bills and then part of this season with the New York Giants. In his NFL career, he’s rushed for 63 yards and two touchdowns on 5.3 yards per attempt.

Smith went undrafted this year after a college career at Baylor that saw him run for 1,647 yards and 13 touchdowns on 6.1 yards per carry. He signed with the New Orleans Saints after the draft but was waived during roster cuts.

McCrary was undrafted in 2021 out of powerhouse Saginaw Valley State. He’s bounced around between the Baltimore Ravens and Denver Broncos since entering the league, recording just two carries for -1 yard.

Perine ended up being the pick, but if Miami is in need of another practice squad back, keep these names in mind.
