After denying the club was interested in signing a veteran name for some time, a combination of injury concerns pushed the team to reconsider its stance.

The available veteran swingmen and bigs ranged from Carmelo Anthony to LaMarcus Aldridge and DeMarcus Cousins. However, the Celtics surprised everyone and opted for six-time All-Star Blake Griffin.
