The Buffalo Bills re-signed a pair of familiar faces to their practice squad.
On Tuesday, the team announced the signings of defensive tackle Justin Zimmer and cornerback Jordan Miller to the taxi unit.
Miller, 25, spent a month with the Bills in training camp. Zimmer is more well-known.
Over the last two years, Zimmer appeared in 18 games with the Bills. He started to become a fan favorite, particularly when All-Pro receiver Tyreek Hill complimented him, but then tore his ACL in Buffalo’s Week 6 contest against the Tennessee Titans in 2021.
The 29-year-old had an early-career stint with the Bills in 2016 as well before returning.
This past spring, the team had the option to tender Zimmer as the defender was a restricted free agent. Considering his injury, it was unsurprising to see Zimmer not re-signed at the time.
In order to make room for Zimmer and Miller, Buffalo released two other defensive tackles from their practice squad: CJ Brewer and Prince Emili.
Emili is the curious choice.
In the Bills’ Week 4 23-20 win over the Baltimore Ravens, Emili played in 20 snaps as he was called up from the practice squad. On one in particular, Emili tipped a pass that was intercepted by safety Jordan Poyer.
Considering his positive play, perhaps the Bills will have future interest in Emili.
