Report: Celtics looking at ‘various paths and options’ to support interim head coach Joe Mazzulla

Per the Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach, the team “has already spoken with several other candidates”.

If former Boston Celtics and current Los Angeles Clippers assistant coach Jay Larranaga is not into the idea of making a return to the Celtics to help interim head coach Joe Mazzulla deal with the ongoing fallout of the Ime Udoka scandal, the team reportedly has other options to turn to if needed.

Per the Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach, the team “has already spoken with several other candidates” and are looking into “various paths and options” to support Mazzulla in a season the Celtics are hoping to contend for an NBA title.

Managing a finely-tuned machine that is an NBA roster for someone with no head coaching experience is by no means an easy task, and mixing the expectations of contention only complicates that proposition.

Add the issues that led to the unexpected elevation of Mazzulla to interim head coach in the first place, and it makes all the sense in the world to get him some help.

But nailing that hire probably requires even more scrutiny than usual given the circumstances, so it’s reassuring to hear the team is proceeding carefully.
